Description

This 4-bit I/O expander for the two-line bidirectionalbus (2C) is designed for 2.3-V to 5.5-V Vccoperation. lt provides general-purpose remote l/0expansion for most microcontroller families via the 12Cinterface [serial clock (SCL), serial data (SDA)].The PCA9536 features 4-bit Configuration (input oroutput selection), nput Port, Output Port, and PolarityInversion (active high or active low) registers. Atpower on, the l/Os are configured as inputs with aweak pullup to Vcc. However, the system master canenable the I/Os as either inputs or outputs by writingto the l/O configuration bits. lf no signals are appliedexternally to the PCA9536, the voltage level is 1, orhigh, because of the internal pullup resistors. Thedata for each input or output is stored in thecorresponding Input Port or Output Port register. Thepolarity of the Input Port register can be inverted withthe Polarity Inversion register. All registers can beread by the system master

The system master can reset the PCA9536 in theevent of a timeout or other improper operation byutilizing the power-on reset feature, which puts theregisters in their default state and initializes the2C/SMBus state machine.

The device's outputs (latched) have high-current drivecapability for directly driving LEDs.lt has low currentconsumption.
